Fundraising Tips:

Get your company involved!
A nurse at a local healthcare agency signed up as a team captain and began to encourage her staff to participate. As other nurses signed up they began to challenge each other to recruit more participants and raise more money. They began to solicit support from the doctors, the pharmaceutical reps, and even the vendors (copy repair, mail carrier, lunch delivery). Within a short about of time this nurse and built a team spirit among her office, had recruited 30 walkers to her team, and had raised a record amount of money toward her goal. They had fun and great success with fundraising ideas such as: “dress down day” where folks donated $5 to dress casual at work, inter-office raffles, departmental challenges, and the greatest success was the cupcake bake off where employees bid on their most desired platter of frosty desserts.

Get your child’s school involved!
A parent joined forces with her child’s teacher to create a variety of fun activities to help raise money for the walk. Every Friday for a month the parent would have a fun activity for the fourth graders to participate in. The first Friday was “hat day”. Students wore their favorite hat to school and donated a dollar to be entered into the “best hat competition.” The following Friday was “costume day”. Again all of the students wore their favorite costume to school and donated a dollar to be entered in the costume contest. The third Friday was “movie day”. The parent and teacher picked a favorite class movie, brought in popcorn and juice and sold tickets for “a donation” to watch the movie. And on the fourth Friday was parent day. This time the parents got to join in the fun when they were all invited into the classroom for an afternoon tea and tickets were sold for $5. In total the class had fun, the parents got involved, and the kids learned about giving.

Get your religious organization involved!
Ask to put up a flyer on the bulletin board, make an announcement during the service, leave a donation envelope in the coffee room or lobby, ask other members to join you at the walk.

Get your team involved!
Reach out to your team mates and ask each of them to join you in support of MHKC. Ask that they take the cost of pizza after the big game and donate it toward your fundraising goal instead.

Get your local Kiwanis Club, Key Club, or Scout Troop involved!
Make an announcement at your next club meeting, put out flyers and ask for donations, host a raffle among club members, create a small challenge and encourage club members to compete for donations. Encourage club members to sign up and join you as a team.

Fundraising at work:

Company matching gift – if you have a matching gift program be sure to ask your company to match your donation.

Dessert auction – ask your co-workers to bring in their favorite desserts and hold an auction for the highest bid.

Covered Dish Lunch – Ask co-workers to bring in yummy dishes to share for lunch and ask for a donation for each plate.

Donation Jar – Place a donation jar with information about the camp on your desk, in the break room, at the reception area.

Raffle – Bake a platter of cookies and sell raffle tickets to co-workers for a yummy afternoon treat.

Fundraising with friends and family:

Letters – letters by mail or online are an easy way to reach out to your friends and family. (use the online tools at mhkcwalk.com in order to request donations.)

Garage sale, Bake Sale, Car Wash, Raffles – are all easy and fun ways to get your friends together to help you reach your goal.

House Party- Host a dinner party and ask each guest to make a donation toward your goal. It’s cheaper than going out to a nice dinner and you get much better company!

Collect Spare Change: Leave a change jar on the counter and at the end of the day ask each family member to throw in their loose change.

Eating Out for MHKC – Set up a benefit night at Baja Fresh or Sweet Tomatoes where 15% of the evenings proceeds will be donated to your goal. Then enjoy the evening of yummy food with friends.
